Mac GlobalProtect Client Install
On the Mac, The latest client is available from the VPN portal. Use https with a web browser to connect to https://vpn.wsu.edu.
- Login with WSU AD credentials
- No need for additional prefixes or suffixes
- Example: [email protected] will only need username john.smith
- After logging in, download the Mac OS agent.
- When prompted, run the software.
- When prompted again, run the GlobalProtect Installer.
- From the GlobalProtect Installer, click continue.
- On the destination select screen, select the install folder and then click continue.
- On the Installation Type screen, select the GlobalProtect installation package check box, and then click continue.
- Click install to confirm that you want to install GlobalProtect.
- When prompted, enter your Username and Password, and then click install software to begin the installation.
- When this security box appears, users MUST click the “Open Security Preferences” Button (NOT the OK Button).
- Click the “Allow” button at the bottom of the “Security & Privacy” box to allow the Palo Alto Extension.
- After installation is complete, close the installer.
Mac Global Protect Operation
Launch the GlobalProtect app by clicking the GP icon (top right of screen). The status panel will open –
- Set the portal address to vpn.wsu.edu
- Click connect
- Once the GlobalProtect client connects to the portal it will prompt for your username and password. Just enter your NID and then click “Sign In”. Example: [email protected] will only need username john.smith
- Once complete, the VPN should know as “Connected”.
Be sure to disconnect the VPN when it is no longer in use.
Mac Uninstall
Download the installer from the portal page at https://vpn.wsu.edu (same process as the previous Mac GP Client install).
From the GlobalProtect installer, click continue.

On the Installation Type screen, select the Uninstall GlobalProtect package check box, and then click continue:

Click Install to confirm that you want to remove the GlobalProtect app.
When prompted, enter your Username and Password, and then click Install Software to uninstall GlobalProtect.

- Open GlobalProtect and click on the Troubleshooting tab. An option to collect logs will create a support file that can be used for analysis.

Follow these instructions to install the GlobalProtect VPN app on your Mac computer.
- Go to https://vpn.marquette.edu/
- On the first page, enter your Marquette username (e.g., eagleg — and not email address or name) and password.
- If you are registered with Duo multi-factor authentication with IT Services, you will receive an automated phone call or see the app prompt below on your mobile device (iOS is shown). If using the app, tap Approve. If a phone call, press 1 to approve.
Note: If you are not registered with IT Services for Duo multi-factor authentication, refer to Duo registration documentation in order to do so. - Once you log in, download options will appear. Choose Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent.
- Once the file has been downloaded, double click the package.
- The Installer will open. Click Continue.
- On the screen, choose the location you would like to install the software, then click Continue.
- For installation select the checkbox for GlobalProtect.
- Confirm the location you have chosen, and click Install.
- Your Mac will ask for administrative privileges at this point. Enter your credentials in the prompt and click Install Software.
- Installation is complete. Select Close.
- After you have successfully installed GlobalProtect, you will receive the following security message to change your Mac's security settings to allow system extensions from Palo Alto Networks to run. Click Open Security Preferences.
- The Security & Privacy settings window opens. On the General tab, there will be a prompt stating 'System software from developer 'Palo Alto Networks' was blocked from loading.'
If the padlock icon in the lower left of the window is locked, click the padlock icon. Your Mac will ask for administrative privileges again to unlock the settings. Enter your credentials in the prompt.
Click Allow. Then close the Security & Privacy settings window. - From the menu bar, select the GlobalProtect icon.
- The GlobalProtect panel will open, and it will prompt you for a portal. In this field, type vpn.marquette.edu, then Connect.
- You will receive a prompt for your Marquette username username (e.g., eagleg — and not email address) and password. Enter your credentials and click Connect.
- If you are registered with Duo multi-factor authentication with IT Services, you will receive an automated phone call or see the app prompt below on your mobile device (iOS is shown). If using the app, tap Approve. If a phone call, press 1 to approve. You are now connected to Marquette VPN.
Note: If you are not registered with IT Services for Duo multi-factor authentication, refer to Duo registration documentation in order to do so. - For subsequent use of GlobalProtect, click the globe icon in the macOS menu bar and select Connect. There is no need to return to the installation website to use VPN unless you need to reinstall software.
Note: If you go your Applications folder and double-click the GlobalProtect application, it will take you to the macOS Finder. There is no separate application for GlobalProtect. Use the globe icon in your menu bar.
